Beachborough is a stand-alone independent Prep School nestled in the picturesque village of Westbury and just outside of Brackley, Northamptonshire close to Buckingham and Bicester for children aged 2.5 years from Nursery to 13 years in Form 8.
Our 35 acres of lawns, sports pitches, woodland, wetlands and forest school as well as our state-of-the-art facilities, combine traditional teaching values with the delivery of our curriculum using the most up to date resources, equipment and technology.
Our experienced teachers deliver a curriculum which is broad, balanced and creative, adapting it to suit each child’s individual needs and interests so that they become confident, well-prepared and highly motivated learners. We nurture deep, dynamic learning to enable children to grow in confidence, but most importantly, to encourage them to love learning.
Class sizes are kept small, creating a caring and friendly environment where each and every child is known, and children are taught at their own individual level so they can progress at the right pace, personalising the learning journey and enabling everyone to succeed.
At Beachborough Prep, we are committed to challenging and supporting every child, providing uplift where required and, for those who are considered to be able to learn at a higher level and at a faster pace, we provide opportunities both within and outside of, their curriculum to develop their abilities, gifts and talents.
At Beachborough Prep, Higher-Level Learners are identified by our committed team of staff, and in all year groups across the school. As members of both NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education) and Potential Plus UK, we are able to offer specialist programmes that enhance the learning experience.
Mrs Exarheas, Head of the Higher-Level Learners Programme said,
“It is crucial to ensure that all pupils are stretched academically, so that they can reach their full potential. Using data from regular assessments such as Cambridge Primary Insights and Cognitive Ability Tests, staff have a clear understanding of each child’s strengths and, areas for development. We promote the ‘HOTS not MOTS’ model, challenging pupils with ‘Higher Order Thinking Skills’ rather than ‘More of the Same’ for those who have already mastered material.”
Our weekly, invitational and optional, Sparks Club is an opportunity for our higher-level learners to explore complex topics, encouraging critical thinking and, problem solving. Most recently, the topic of ‘Weird and Wonderful Photography’ was delivered by Mr Knowles.
During this lesson, the pupils were shown a selection of images, and they had to decide what they were and at what angle they were taken. A full discussion followed looking at the history of photography and the type of cameras used both past and present, identifying the worth of each camera shown. The children really got stuck into the reasoning behind their answers, listening to each other’s views during this light debate. The lesson concluded with the children making their own pinhole camera. This lesson provided the children with an opportunity to learn quickly and to expand on a specialist subject which is of interest to them.
