Every year, we welcome four new gap students to the Beachborough team. This is a brilliant opportunity for young people to get real-life experience in a busy yet supportive school environment.
In this week’s ‘From classroom to community’ spotlight, we are shining a light on Dan Little, one of our new gappies. As a Beachborough alumnus, Dan was excited to come back to the school that, in his words, “gave him so much.”
Hi Dan, can you tell us a little about yourself – your passions, your background and what makes you, you?
I’m really passionate about sport, especially hockey, and I also love art and photography. I am looking forward to getting stuck into school life, getting to know the children, parents and staff, and hopefully being able to give something back to the school that I have so many good memories of.
What attracted you to apply for the gap student position?
I have wanted to do this job for a very long time. Ever since I joined Beachborough in Pre-Prep, I used to see the gap students around the school and always thought that I would love to be one of them one day. My older sister also did the job and absolutely loved her time at Beachborough, which, of course, made me want to do it even more.
What are you hoping to achieve within your year as a gap student?
I am really hoping to make the most of my year at Beachborough and to have a positive impact on the pupils. I would like to be someone they look up to and feel comfortable talking to, while getting involved in as much as I can.
I also want to build my confidence and learn new skills along the way. Most of all, I would love to finish the year knowing I have made a difference and given something back to the school that gave me so much.
What are your aspirations once your time at Beachborough comes to an end? What are you hoping to do next?
I have no clue! I am keeping all my options open for now, but ideally, I would like to pursue one of my passions.
