From classroom to community: A spotlight on Tom Dimmock

Posted: 30th January 2026

Beachborough Prep Head of Computing

In this week’s spotlight, we take a closer look at the inspirations and experiences that guide one of our brilliant new team members at Beachborough Prep.

We are delighted to welcome Tom Dimmock, who joined us in January as our new Head of Computing and club leader, bringing with him a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm.

Tom’s passion for all things IT, combined with his love of music, theatre, and family, brings a wonderful energy to the school. His enthusiasm and specialist knowledge make him a great addition to the Beachborough Community, and we are thrilled to have him on board.

Tell us a little about yourself – what you’re passionate about, your background and what makes you, you.

I’m passionate about technology and love keeping up with the latest trends. You’ll often find me wandering through the tech section of a shop, checking out gadgets I probably don’t need! I’m also a big PlayStation fan and enjoy a wide mix of games, from sports titles to action adventures.

Music is another huge part of my life. I’m usually wearing my AirPods and listening to all sorts of genres. I don’t stick to a favourite; I just like what I like. Nothing beats putting on some good music and heading out for a walk.

I’m also a proud Tottenham Hotspur supporter – my mum’s side of the family are from that part of London. Family is really important to me, and I spend lots of time with my niece and nephew in Bedford, who keep me busy most weekends.

I have family dotted around the world, but my favourite place to visit is Japan. The culture, the way of life, and the food are definite highlights. Most evenings, you’ll find me relaxing with the telly (I’m a big Traitors fan!) and a good book (preferring autobiographies over fiction).

My route into teaching wasn’t traditional. I began as an IT apprentice, gained my Microsoft certifications, and worked as a technician. When I applied for an IT role in a school, I was offered the chance to teach computing to Reception through to Year 2, and I loved it. I went on to qualify, became Head of Computing, and later deputised for the Head of Prep. After 13 rewarding years, I’m excited to start this new chapter at Beachborough.

What do you love the most about being part of the Beachborough team?

I can only speak on the first few weeks I’ve been here, but everyone is really friendly and helpful, helping me to settle in – I am truly grateful for that as it’s pretty nerve wracking being a new member of staff.

What inspired you to do what you do and what keeps you passionate about it today?

Two things have inspired me to do what I do… technology and my mum. It was my passion for technology that helped gain me my IT qualifications, but it was my mum’s love for her job as a teaching assistant that inspired me to take the jump into teaching, and I haven’t looked back.

We are thrilled Tom is here and can’t wait to see all he brings to Beachborough.

Welcome to the team Tom!
