Since joining Beachborough Prep School in September 2024 as Head of History and Religious Studies (RS), Aidan Jackson has become a familiar and valued member of the school community.
Alongside leading History and RS, he is Club Leader for Carder, a teacher of Games and a Form V tutor. We caught up with Aidan to find out more about his background, what inspires him as a teacher and how he enjoys spending time away from the classroom.
Hi Aidan, can you tell us a little about yourself – what you’re passionate about, your background and what makes you, you.
Away from teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family – my wife and two daughters, who are 7 and 5. We’re keen campers and try to get away in our tent a few times a year, with Cornwall as our destination of choice.
Outside of family life, I enjoy keeping fit and trying to play golf when the weather allows. Pottering around the garden, playing chess and visiting anything old and historical are among my favourite ways to unwind.
Before joining Beachborough, I spent ten years at Akeley Wood, having previously taught in schools in York and Maidenhead.
What do you love the most about being part of the Beachborough team?
The enthusiasm and eagerness of the pupils. Every lesson, I’m impressed by how much they want to learn and how keen they are to try something new. Their willingness to get involved and embrace new challenges makes teaching incredibly rewarding.
The staff team at Beachborough could not be more supportive and fun to work with. There’s a genuine sense of teamwork throughout the school, which makes it a great place to be every day.
What inspired you to do what you do and what keeps you passionate about it today?
I’ve always enjoyed working with young people and had an interest in the past and different cultures, so going into History and RS teaching seemed a natural choice. There are not many careers where you get to spend your time talking about topics that genuinely interest you, while helping others discover them too.
What keeps me passionate about teaching is seeing that interest reflected in pupils. Watching them engage with a topic, ask thoughtful questions and develop their own curiosity is incredibly rewarding. It’s especially satisfying when that enthusiasm is sparked in a child who may not previously have enjoyed the subject. Every day brings something different, which is one of the things I enjoy most about teaching.
