Kindergarten (Pre-School) is a gentle and joyful beginning to a child’s educational journey. At this stage, the children are gently introduced to the routines they will encounter in the more structured environment of Reception so that they are well-prepared when the time comes to move up. The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is taught through play, with the focus on enjoyment and fun.
Our approach is rooted in the magic of play not just as an activity, but as the foundation of all meaningful learning in the Early Years. Through carefully planned and thoughtfully resourced experiences, children explore the world around them, develop confidence, and build key skills across all areas of learning.
Phonics and early mathematical thinking are naturally woven into our daily provision, helping children to develop their early literacy and numeracy in a way that feels engaging and exciting. Alongside this, we nurture creativity, curiosity, communication and physical development, supporting each child on their unique developmental journey.
We organise each term’s learning around a different topic, linking a wide range of activities and providing a thematic focus. Using inspirational, interesting resources and a wide range of activities, we nurture our children so that they reach their full potential and their Early Learning Goals in time for moving up to Reception with sparked imagination, ready to explore hands-on experiences that promote inquiry, problem-solving and joyful discovery.
The children in Kindergarten also benefit from their weekly specialist Music and PE sessions which help to support their physical coordination, self-expression, and overall wellbeing. We even begin teaching them a little French, because the younger they start learning a foreign language, the better! We work in close partnership with parents in carefully documenting the children’s progress and in celebrating their achievements. We use an interactive online journal, Tapestry, to capture and communicate each child’s individual learning journey, helping to build a strong bridge between home and school.
Above all, Kindergarten is a place where children feel safe, loved, and valued – a space where they can thrive, explore, and begin their lifelong love of learning.
Our Beachborough Explorers Stay & Play events are the perfect opportunity for pre-school aged children and their parents to explore the Beachborough Prep learning environment. Head to our events pages to find out more.
