Deciding on a future career or whether to pursue further education is a big decision and one that should not be rushed. Gap placements have been a long tradition at Beachborough Prep, offering young adults the chance to build skills, gain valuable experience and take the time they need to make informed choices about their next steps.
This is especially true for one of Beachborough’s current Gap Students, Lewis.
Lewis joined the Beachbrough Gap team after completing his Level 3 Sports Coaching qualification at Brackley Town Football Club. With sport playing a major role in the Gap placement specification, Lewis saw this as the perfect opportunity to continue developing his coaching skills while considering his future career path.
“Beachborough stood out because of its excellent sports programme. As I’m still undecided about what I want to do next, I thought the Gap experience would be a great way to gain more knowledge and coaching experience.”
Lewis is considering a career in coaching or teaching, so strengthening his leadership skills and boosting his confidence are goals he wants to achieve during his time at Beachborough. “I’m finding the responsibility the most rewarding, it’s really improved my confidence. I feel empowered to contribute and get fully involved with school life, which motivates me to work harder.”
Since starting in September, Lewis has developed a wide range of skills, “I’ve become better at managing my time and balancing different tasks. I’ve also improved my confidence working and communicating with both children and staff. I haven’t decided what I want to do next just yet, but I know that I will leave Beachborough with the skills I need for a successful future, whatever that may be.”
