Taking a gap year can be an incredible opportunity to gain experience, develop new skills, and give back to a community that shaped you. For one of our current Gap Students, his time at Beachborough Prep has been all about doing just that. Continuing our series ‘Meet the Gap Students’, we’d like to introduce you to Oscar…
Joining us after completing his A levels at Bloxham School, Oscar’s experiences on the sports pitch and in boarding made the transition into a Gap role at Beachborough a natural fit. “I captained the Bloxham 1st XV and played 1st XI and county-level hockey as well as boarded weekly so I feel I can really help in these areas around school, giving my all so the children have as much fun as possible whilst being a trusted person for them to talk to if they need anything.”
Having attended Beachborough Prep himself, Oscar thought this Gap year opportunity was the perfect role before heading to university. Deciding between Psychology or Sports Management and Coaching, Oscar plans to use this year for his own growth, to gain a sense of responsibility with this being his first full time job. From boarding duties to lunchtime games, every experience is helping him to build independence and adaptability.
When asked what’s been most rewarding so far, his answer was clear: boarding life. “I enjoy being involved with games like manhunt inside with the kids and playing rugby on the front lawn. It makes me feel really involved and helps me get the most out of my gap year.”
Oscar fondly remembers the impact of previous Gap Students he encountered during his time at Beachborough as a pupil, “I remember them being great, and everyone loved them… I hope to have the same impact while I’m here.”
We’re excited to see all that Oscar will achieve during the rest of his time at Beachborough and the positive impact he’ll continue to make. Thank you, Oscar, for your energy, commitment, and enthusiasm, we’re proud to have you as part of our team.
