How flexi-boarding supports wellbeing

It can be a powerful catalyst for independent growth, offering enough independence for children to stretch their wings, whilst keeping them grounded in the comfort of a homely environment.

A home-from-home environment

At Beachborough, a village prep school based in between Buckingham and Brackley, our home-from-home boarding house, Kites, creates a safe, nurturing space where children can relax, unwind and feel supported outside of normal school hours. The structure of boarding life promotes healthy routines, emotional recharge and a well-rounded lifestyle.

Supporting mental health

The Beachborough boarding provision, along with our boarding house parents and assistants, provide routine and stability each day with gentle, slow routines for our youngest boarders and a mentoring programme for our older, more regular boarders, both of which can empower pupils and help them to overcome anxiety and manage stress. Boarding at Beachborough is open to anyone in Form III and above and we are always keeping an eye on achieving a balance between having fun and getting a good night’s sleep.

“Being able to spend the night at school with their friends not only gets them ready for boarding at secondary school but also gives their friendships a whole new dimension and helps them make the most of their magical last couple of years at Prep School.”

Flexi-boarding balances structure with flexibility

Extended hours, nutritious meals and fun and engaging co-curricular activities means that children are fully occupied and thus putting less emphasis on being away from home full-time. We slowly introduce independence, confidence building and resilience by navigating daily tasks such as organising schoolwork, preparing for the next day and making decisions.

“We organise a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy, the children really love having the chance to spend more time with their friends in the fun atmosphere of Kites.”

-Mrs Blithe, Houseparent

Supporting families

Flexi-boarding can help ease pressure on busy parents by offering wraparound care and is especially helpful at times where routines do not align. Flexi-boarding strengthens the school-home partnership, giving families more options of how to best support their children.

Flexi-boarding blends the best of both worlds – the care and camaraderie of boarding school life with the comfort and continuity of home. For more information on our boarding provision here at Beachborough Prep in Northamptonshire, book in for your personal tour of our boarding house, ‘Kites,’ by emailing admissions@beachborough.com.
