Head TeacherHead’s Blog

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” – Edward Everett Hale

This week, I have been at the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Conference in Newport, Wales. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet Heads of similar schools, and share thoughts and views of the imminent changes to our sector and new initiatives and successes.

I attended some inspiring workshops, including The Future of Education in a World of Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality, Empowering Every Child by Integrating Wellbeing Practices into Everyday Education, and Unleashing the Potential of Introverted Children. There was also a lively debate on what the next 5 years will look like for the Independent Education Sector, with expert politicians and political commentators Ed Dorrell, Lord David Hacking and Alex Chalk.

A very informative and worthwhile couple days, but I am looking forward to being back at school next week.

In my absence, we learnt that we have been successful in being awarded Microsoft Showcase Status. A huge congratulations, thank you, and well done to Mrs Blithe, Mr Rodd, and the whole staff team for this fantastic achievement.

I hope to see many of you tomorrow at our Dog Show “Paws for a Cause.”

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend,

Simone

Jenna’s Triathlon Success

Last weekend, I competed in the British Triathlon Grand Final at Mallory Park in Leicestershire. After a successful 2024 triathlon racing season, I was selected to be part of the ‘South Central’ team at the Championships. Teams came to represent their regions from all over Great Britain. It was very exciting, and I was also quite nervous, as this was the biggest event I had ever competed in. We raced over the whole weekend, taking part in two aquathlons, a triathlon, and a transition challenge event, to earn points for our team. My friend Eva P from Beachborough was picked as team reserve, so it was lovely to have her there too. The whole weekend was an amazing experience, even the freezing cold lake swims!

Mrs Mitchell bumps into some familiar faces!

Whilst away on an IAPS conference this week, Mrs Mitchell was delighted to run into former Beachborough Headmaster (from 2013-2018), Jeremy Banks, alongside his wife, Sophie.

Mr and Mrs Banks send their best wishes to everybody at Beachborough!

James K’s Scholarship News

“Hi, I am James, and I am currently in Form 8. I have loved my time here at Beachborough, but like every Beachburian, we have to depart Beachborough at the end of the year. I am excited to say that I’ve got a place at Gordonstoun, with an all-round scholarship, which included an academic scholarship, a Drama scholarship, and a Tech scholarship.”

This is a Beachborough first, and we are very proud of James, who worked very hard over the summer months in order to prepare for the assessments at the end of August.

Congratulations, James!

George’s Art Website

We are proud to share George’s (FV) website, where he exhibits his newfound passion for Art!

George has really got into painting this summer, after initially receiving some art materials for his birthday in July. He has been teaching himself through YouTube videos, and the art he is producing now is fantastic for his age. George would be very grateful if you could take a look at his website: Home | Rei Hiromi (georgedoggett8.wixsite.com)

Well done, George!

Boardman Above and Beyond Certificates

We are very excited to launch our Boardman Above and Beyond certificates! Each week in our Boardman assemblies, we recognise children’s efforts by awarding these certificates to children in Reception to Form IV, who have gone above and beyond the expected.

This week, for example, certificates were awarded for the following reasons:

  • For always thinking of those around her and helping her friends where she can
  • For an amazing attitude to learning and enthusiasm for everything they do
  • For always looking for the positives in any situation and encouraging others to do the same

Additionally, each certificate is linked to the child’s Club colour, instilling a sense of belonging, and for our Form III and IV children providing an opportunity to earn credits for their Club.

We are very proud of the exceptional effort and focus our Boardman children put into their learning and interactions in school, and this is a wonderful way to celebrate them.

We hope this also provides a wonderful link between home and school to enable parents to similarly feel proud of their child’s achievements. We look forward to sharing these celebrations with you over the year.

The results are in!

As well as these results, our U13A and Colts A girls’ hockey teams had a strong showing at the Stowe Prep Schools tournament on Monday 16th September with the former finishing 5th overall after 3 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats and the latter coming 4th in their competition after 2 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss overall.

Our U11A and U11B boys’ rugby teams, after their successful afternoon at the Bloxham Rugby Festival on Wednesday:

What have our Sports Captains been up to?

Kitty M in Form VIII is Girls’ Hockey Captain this year. This week, she attended the Bloxham Hockey Festival to support her younger peers. ‘Coach Kitty’ led a warm up at the beginning of the festival, had a whiteboard to write her notes on and draw set play diagrams to help feedback to the U11 Colts A team. At half time and end of play, Kitty gave her focus for the next match from analysing the previous match. Kitty was a fantastic role model to Form V & VI girls’ and very supportive to the Beachborough staff. Well done!

FVII utilise their new 2-in-1 laptops!

In French, our FVII children have been using their new, personal 2-in-1 Lenovo devices to ink using OneNote!

Each device has an integrated stylus pen, of which the children have been using to write in French, during their lessons.

Well done, FVII!

Creativity Assembly with FV

At the FV year group assembly on creativity, the significance of creativity was discussed, highlighting that it often involves encountering failures. We talked through how these failures are essential parts of the learning journey and that we can all be creative. To demonstrate this, three FV children were challenged to turn random lines and squiggles on a piece of paper into drawings within two minutes. The children performed exceptionally well, proving that everyone has the ability to be creative; it’s just a matter of unlocking that creative potential!

U11 Bloxham Festival

U11 Colts A team had an amazing afternoon at the Bloxham Festival – playing 4 matches. The level of the girls play increased every match, they were incredibly coachable and took onboard all feedback and delivered on the pitch. Our results were fantastic: Maidwell Hall 2-0 win, St Hughes 3-0 win, Winchester House 4-1 win, Pinewood 1-1 draw. The girls and PE team are now really excited for IAPS next week!
