Spratton Hall Cross Country Relays

The annual Spratton Hall cross country relays took place on Monday on a cold but suitable day for running with no wind to contend with. The standard is always very high at this event and Spratton Hall had extended the number of schools it had invited, meaning more competitors taking part than ever before. The Senior girls’ teams were missing some key personnel, due to illness and injury, which led to captain Isobel B stepping up and running an extra leg. This epitomises the spirit of the our runners in general in that they are all prepared to go that extra mile or dig that little deeper for the benefit of the team as a whole.

A solid run from our two U11 teams, boys and girls, enabled both to finish in 4th place in the overall standings. Special mention must go to Lottie M who ran a superbly paced race to give us a lead after the 1st leg in the girls’ event and Bella A who proceeded to make up a few places towards the end on the final leg to enable us to finish in 4th. The boys ran creditably too and weren’t far away from picking up a medal for their efforts either.

In the senior races, our two girls’ teams fought hard on what was now a very muddy course to finish in respectable positions. The boys’ race was a fascinating watch; a sound first leg from Oliver H meant we were in 6th in a very competitive field of schools before Harry R’s excellent run put us into 4th at the halfway point. Henry P continued the momentum that we were starting to build catching a runner to move us into 3rd and ultimately a medal position with one leg remaining. The captain, Benedict H, had the task of anchoring us home and a typical determined and spirited run allowed him to overtake a boy from The Dragon and meant that we finished 2nd behind Lincroft, the National Champions.

  • U11 boys Team: Toby B, Edward E, Adam M-D and Charlie T finished 4th
  • U11 girls Team: Bella A, Lucy B, Lottie M and Lottie G finished 4th
  • U13 boys Team: Benedict H, Oliver H, Henry P and Harry R finished 2nd
  • U13 girls Team: Pippa L, Larissa C, Emily S and Florence T finished 5th
  • Team: Isobel B, Hattie G and Olivia M finished 8th.

Well done to all of those involved! My thanks go to Mrs Pollock for her help in managing each of our teams and to the parents who travelled a fair distance to watch their children compete. Next on the cross country agenda is the Chandlings meeting for our Form III-VI children on Tuesday 7th February followed by the Swanbourne Chase two days later for our older pupils!
