A group of Beachborough children ventured for the first time to this event. They all swam first in a lovely 8 lane 25m pool, and then ran around a 400m running track. The distances vary depending on age group and ranging from 50m swim to 100m swim and run of either 800m or 1600m.
We had some great results, in U10 boys our team of Harry A, Sam D and Charlie T won the team event, and Charlie T was third individual and won the run. Harry A started the run with a stitch and showed huge courage and determination to complete his 2 laps. We are hoping all three boys have qualified for the Nationals.
In the U12 boys Henry P was 1st individual and won both the run and swim. Fingers crossed he too will qualify for the Nationals. Archie A was 7th in a very competitive field for the under 13 boys. It was his first taste of a biathlon and having just joined Beachborough Sharks he swam beautifully.
In the girls events we were unable to make up teams but the girls swam and ran very well. In the U11 girls Molly B was 20th. It was the most competitive class and a huge range of abilities. She did very well in her first event.
All of the children tried laser pistol shooting at 10m which was great fun in between the races. This Sunday we have the East Midlands Biathlon Championships in Nottingham so good luck to all those athletes racing.
Beachborough is now an affiliated Modern Pentathlon club. If you don’t do Beachborough Sharks or the Triathlon club you can still enter. Next year we would like to make up more teams and hopefully get more teams to the nationals. If you are interested then please just contact me.
