The Club Music Finals

On Thursday this week one of the highlights of the Music department’s calendar took place – The Club Music Finals! This is a very popular, fiercely fought annual Club event that allows all the children at Beachborough to perform to their fellow classmates and earn credits for their club. In the preliminary rounds children performed a piece of music during their Music lessons and were allowed to enter twice from any of the three categories; Solo, Ensemble and Home Grown (Composition).

We were fortunate to welcome Mr Alex Redpath, Director of Music at Bloxham School, to adjudicate the competition. The day started with seven Junior sections (Forms III – V) in woodwind; piano; brass; composition; strings; percussion and singing. The children performed confidently and competently and received congratulations and useful remarks from the adjudicator. The senior section followed, again with some excellent performances in each of the seven classes. Congratulations to all the children who took part in the individual and ensemble classes but a special well done to Annie winner of the Junior section, and to Lottie, winner of the Senior section.

The day finished with the introduction of a new event this year – a Club Song Competition in which all members of each club sang a song from their chosen musical, including the staff. This was all very entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone although fiercely competitive (especially by the staff!). We had renditions of “Any Dream Will Do” from Boardman; a medley of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, “Grease Lightning” & “Postman Pat” from Chappell; “Mamma Mia” (complete with inflatable guitars) from Sprawson and a very well deserved winner from Carder with a rendition of “Life’s a Happy Song”. Mr Clark was truly in his element conducting his choir!
