On Thursday, a team of 27 swimmers took part in the annual Stowe Challenge Swimming Cup. Having won the trophy last year, the bar was set high before we arrived but the swimmers all looked up for the challenge of emulating that feat!
A group of Form III and IV children, who made up our U9 team, were representing the school for the first time but they certainly didn’t show any nerves in the way that they swam. Hannah C’s win in the first event of the gala, the U9 girls 25m, set the tone for a successful afternoon for our younger swimmers. Molly B, Arabella C, Lottie G, Ciara L, Samuel D, Joshua K, Ben S and Charlie T also making their debuts for the school, all gave a great account of themselves in each of the individual and team based relays that they took part in.
The whole swimming team acquitted themselves superbly, cheering one another on throughout the afternoon and showing great camaraderie. Charlotte M and Angus P as girls’ and boys’ captains respectively, led the team from the front in the way that they performed and took responsibility where necessary. Our boys’ team were narrowly beaten into second place by Akeley Wood by the small margin of 7 points. However, by virtue of our girls winning their competition by 61 points, Beachborough emerged victorious in the overall standings to win the Rigby Cup for the second successive year – a great achievement!
My thanks go to Mrs Pollock for all of the hard work that she has put into coaching our swimmers this year at Beachborough Sharks on Friday evenings as well as to Mrs Moffat and Miss Kennedy for all of their help and support with the team, ensuring that the pupils knew where to be for each of their races.
