Stowe Prep Schools Athletics Meeting

On Monday, Beachborough took a team of 31 athletes to compete at the Stowe Prep Schools Athletics Meeting. The pupils, spread across four age group categories, competed in a total of 6 events. Unfortunately a huge deluge just before the start as well as all of the rain that fell on Monday morning meant that Stowe had to cancel the hurdles, high jump and javelin. However, they deserve great credit for keeping the event on and were rewarded with some late afternoon sunshine which enabled the meeting to run smoothly. Winners on the day were Holly P, who ran a fantastic 800m in 2 minutes 38 seconds to pip her rival from Cheam into 2nd place by 1 second. Holly also finished 2nd in the 100m in a time of 14.9 seconds to complete a good meeting for her. Kitty J won the U13 Girls long jump, recording a distance of 3.93 metres whilst Ben E jumped a centre metre further to come out on top in the U11 Boys event. Emily C threw 7.89 metres to win a closely contested U14 Girls shot putt. Many of our other athletes achieved top 3 finishes in each of their respective events and deserve great credit for doing so. Stowe Prep Schools Athletics Meeting Beachborough Newsletter | 5 The whole athletics squad acquitted themselves superbly, cheering one another on throughout the afternoon and showing great camaraderie. After a slight delay following the relays for the results, we discovered that we finished 3rd overall in the U13 boys and the U14 girls’ categories and runners up in the U13 girls and U14 boys’ age groups. This was a great reward for the way that our pupils have applied themselves to their athletics this term, attending lunch time clubs on Monday and Thursday afternoons and extra training on Friday morning in Josh M’s case. My thanks go to Mrs Little for helping to taking charge of our allocated event on the day, the shot putt, and to Mr Phillips, Mrs Tuthill and Mr Nottingham for all of their efforts supervising and getting our pupils to their events on time. The next athletics event is the IAPS East Area Regional Championships in Bedford in the week after half term where we will be taking a select group of athletes to try and qualify for the Nationals.
