Beachborough Run 2014

The Beachborough Run

Tuesday afternoon saw the highlight of our Cross Country season as we hosted the Beachborough Run. Due to an off-site bridge being declared unsafe this summer, the course had to be altered slightly which added in a lovely new stretch along the far bank of the River Ouse. The children had been out practicing for the last couple of weeks and were clearly really determined to put on a good show despite the windy conditions. Jemma Zimmermann led the Junior Girls’ race from about 300 m in and was comfortably the fastest runner, although 7th place for Florence Tuthill is a very impressive achievement for a girl in Form III! Henry Pollock, Oliver Hartigan, Benedict Hartigan and Josh Dines have trained superbly all season and they led the Beachborough team in a closely fought battle with Maidwell Hall. Despite some miscommunication and a wrong turn along the route the boys all ran magnificently and the team finished a close second behind their rivals with both Hartigan boys winning tight sprints at the finish line to pick up valuable points. The senior races were a little more straight forward affairs with particularly fine performances from Tabitha Watkins, Kitty Jewson, Emilia Havard and Sophie Tredwell, (7th, 10th, 12th and 16) bringing the girls in 2nd overall and Josh McCallum and Angus Pollock (4th and 7th) in the boys’ race. Many thanks to all the parents who came down to support the teams and to Mr Usher and his team of organisers for putting on such a fun and rewarding afternoon for the team.
