The Reception Year continues to build upon the Foundation Stage Curriculum and Early Learning Goals, which lays a strong foundation for the childs education throughout their school life. The six areas of the curriculum are achieved through a variety of structured and play activities. Each area of the curriculum receives an equal emphasis throughout the school week.
In the Reception classroom the principles that form the basis of the childs education are to provide a happy, friendly and stimulating atmosphere where we can motivate and encourage our children in the learning process. By offering a wide range of activities we aim to discover and develop the particular strengths of each child and build upon their independence to explore all curriculum areas.
Children will be welcomed into the Reception class at the start of the academic year in which they celebrate their fifth birthday. The Reception class is based on a full day programme with facilities for care during the extended day. We encourage strong links with parents to ensure we meet the needs of all children.
The Reception curriculum follows a topic based approach in which active learning is an important element. Our topics have provided us with the opportunity to visit
