Sport at Beachborough is more than raw talent and fitness; it is about leadership, teamwork and endeavour. Whilst we are often represented at county level (most notably in hockey and cricket) and enjoy a solid sports scholarship track record, we have also built a strong tradition of participation and inclusion.
Our best sporting teams are selected without compromise and play to win against other schools. But we arrange fixtures for children of all abilities so they too experience a sense of belonging, the coach ride to an away game and the match tea afterwards. Parents are always welcome to come and watch home and away matches. For home matches, children must stay until they have hosted tea and said goodbye to the visiting team.
The main boys’ sports are rugby in the autumn term, hockey and football in the spring term and cricket and athletics in the summer term. The main girls’ sports are hockey in the autumn term, netball in the spring term, rounders and athletics in the summer term. In recent years a number of Beachborough girls have participated in sports traditionally played by boys. We support these girls to the best of our ability and if they play at County level or higher an individualised programme to support their progress will be offered in consultation with the Director of Sport.
The children are also offered a wide variety of other sports including cross country running, gymnastics, tennis, swimming, trampolining, badminton, basketball, lacrosse and golf. All games lessons are taught by a specialist teachers.
Beachborough has a superb 700m2 sports hall containing a 5 a-side football pitch, badminton courts, trampoline, cricket and archery nets. This compliments acres of sports fields which include astro hockey, netball and tennis courts, cricket nets, pavilions and scoreboards, a cross country circuit, and multiple rugby, football, rounders and cricket pitches as required.
