Music is a strength of Beachborough School. The department is modern, bright, spacious and well equipped. To support class based Music there is a suite of 6 practice rooms for visiting tutors, who give individual and group tuition on a variety of instruments and in singing.
Pupils who choose to learn an instrument are prepared for examinations set by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College London.
Choirs
There are opportunities for all children in Forms I to VI (Years 3-8) who enjoy singing to join the school choirs, which perform at concerts and services during the school year.
There are also selected Senior and Junior Festival Choirs, which perform both at school and at public venues during the school year. These choirs enter local Music Festivals and take part in preparatory schools' choral days.
Instrumental Tuition Forms I to VI (Years 3-8)
A dedicated team of visiting professional musicians offer one-to-one tuition in a variety of instruments; for example clarinet, saxophone, flute, recorder, all brass, piano, violin, 'cello, guitar and percussion. The weekly lessons rotate throughout the day.
Pupils are all encouraged to perform a solo piece to an audience in school at least once a year.
Pupils in Form I (Year 3) are offered a free 5 week 'taster session' if they are interested in learning a brass or stringed instrument or the recorder.
Instrumental Groups
Children who learn an instrument may play in small groups, tutored by the visiting specialist music teachers and perform at assemblies and other school events.
Visiting Professionals
Regular Music Workshops, for instance a Steel Band, add a further dimension to the children's understanding and appreciation of world music.
School Productions
Many children are involved in annual school productions which offer a wide variety of solo, small group and choral singing opportunities. Recently the school has performed "My Fair Lady" and "Oliver!".
