The Curriculum
Beachborough's curriculum is designed to encourage personal development
and high personal achievement. The general principle governing the school
curriculum is that every child shall be entitled to a curriculum that is
balanced and broadly based and which:
Promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development
of the children.

All pupils from Form I (Year 3) follow:

We are not a selective school. Whilst we reward the best academically,
we value the efforts of all individual children in all areas of school
life. Music, Art and Sport are given considerable prominence and there
are many opportunities to show talent in these disciplines through
performance, display and competition.
Having small classes (max 16) allows for a variety of approaches to
learning: visual, sound/auditory and hands-on. Work is differentiated
in order to support the less able and to extend the more able.
Prep is a vital part of our study programme. It reinforces what has been taught and it teaches
the pupils to work alone and plan their work. It is the policy of the
school that prep is set on a regular basis for
pupils in Form III (Year 5) and above according to their individual needs.
This prep period runs from 17.00 18.45pm.
Pupils in Forms I & II (Years 3 & 4) take home their reading folder
regularly and may also be asked to do short pieces of work such as finding
pieces of information etc.
Beachborough has an established Special Needs department, staffed by
specialist teachers. As a school we pride ourselves on being small enough
to appreciate, consider and provide for the needs of each individual.
We recognise and challenge strengths and we support weaknesses.
The school is fortunate in having classroom staff who are sensitive
to childrens needs and experienced in identifying pupils who are experiencing
difficulties. Fostering a sense of self-worth and building up confidence are
vital ingredients of the support offered and this is enhanced by the close
liaison between Learning Support and class teachers.
Learning Support
The quality of the learning experience is of primary importance at Beachborough.
We have specific support mechanisms in place that address each childs particular
individual needs throughout their time at our school. We aim to help
each child maximise their potential.
