The children in Prep-Prep 2 have been looking at industry in the local area and last week were amazed at the amount of recycling done by the SugaRich factory in Westbury, the same in weight as 11,067 double decker buses last year!
This week they turned their attention to farming. Mrs Fuller gave a fascinating talk to the children about her farm and the different uses of grass. The children discovered how grass is used in fertilising the ground, feeding animals and in engineering projects too. Recycling is an important part of farming and throughout the year opportunities arise for either the grass or materials used on the farm to be recycled. They found out how the sheep are identified and tracked on the farm and the terrible trouble the farmers are having with ‘black grass’ weed and restoring the land after years of producing food since the Second World War. A huge thank you to Mrs Fuller and George for a really interesting insight into life on the farm.
