3 Podiums for Zac at Austrian Races

After three weeks of training with his ski racing academy, Team Evolution, in Austria over the Christmas period, Zac M took part in his first Alpine races of 2016. Held in Leogang, Austria the Atomic-Ambition Championships included four days of racing for age groups U16s down to U12/10s, with a mixture of Giant Slalom and Pro-Slalom races. The races attracted the strongest skiers from GB together with entries from Poland, Australia, Holland, France, Canada and local Austrian children.

In the Giant Slalom Race on Day 1, Zac finished outside the podium after a fall on Run 1 and a poor Run 2. With the conditions worsening on Day 2, Zac skied a great time in the Giant Slalom on his second Run to move up from 5th to finish 3rd.

Hoping to build on the previous day’s success, the races changed to Zac’s favoured race type “Pro-Slalom”. Day three started in very poor weather conditions again but he managed to post a run that left him in 3rd position despite a mistake on Run 1.

Moving into the final day, Zac pushed himself to post three amazingly fast and consistent times and a 2nd place on the podium, therefore ending the week a step higher up!

The English Development Squad selection is to be announced in April. The results that Zac achieved (two 3rd’s and one 2nd) will help him in the selection process.

Zac now moves onto the English Alpine Championships held in Bormio, Italy in February.
