Beachborough Design Hero

Design your own ‘Learning Hero’ competition

As the children are all aware, Beachborough have been looking at mindset and how we can create motivated learners who embrace challenge, learn from setbacks and know that they can grow their intelligence. The reflection process that we have undertaken has led to a review of the existing credit/team point structure. This system currently on the whole recognises children for work in a subject, yet what does a ‘Maths credit’ actually tell them? They know they did something well in Maths but the actual skill that they used or developed is not clear. Below is a list of 7 words which, from September, will be the focus for our recognition systems. Developing these skills will enable children to really understand what they have achieved and will enable us to analyse the strengths and weakness of each child’s intellectual characteristics. If you would like to know more about Mindset and how we at Beachborough are developing this area, please do come along to the presentation on 3rd June at 6pm. Over half term a competition has been launched, by the School Council, for the children to design a ‘Learning Hero’. Each hero must be based on one of the words listed below. Children can enter as many times as they like and the winning entries will be used to create the Learning Heroes for the Boardman. Please do encourage your child to participate as it will start them thinking about the words we are going to be focusing on. Hopefully they will see it as a challenge to be faced head on, with reflection and perseverance…..!

Our seven words of recognition are:

  • Challenge
  • Empathy
  • Perseverance and Resilience
  •  Originality
  • Curiosity
  • Collaboration
  • Reflection

The deadline for entries is Wednesday 3rd June at 8:30am and boxes will be available in the Manor House and Boardman.
