U13 Lady Taverner Regional Finals

After winning the county round at the end of last term the girls cricket team had a very early start to travel to Leicester for the Lady Taverners Regional final on Tuesday. Drawn in Pool A against some impressive opposition the girls who had already shown their commitment by attending training in the holidays were determined to play to their potential. Losing the toss against Leicester Grammar who chose to bat we took a few overs to adjust to the fast and high scoring nature of this game but when in our stride kept them to a score of 107 off their 8 overs. An impressive run chase by the girls (including three retirements) saw us reach 108 with one ball to spare…..nerve racking stuff! The next two matches against Old Buckenham High and Ralph Sadlier School were no less tense, but by now the girls were playing their best cricket and won both in the final over. We were through to the regional final and one match away from playing at Lords in the Nationals! Playing against St Ivo School (last year’s winners at U13 and U15 age groups) we knew it was going to be a tough match. Unfortunately this is where the dream ended but for a group of girls -many of whom had not played cricket before- this was an outstanding achievement. Their commitment, natural sporting ability and most importantly team work had made them Regional Runners up and Beachborough very proud. Well done girls. Report by Susi Plummer
