Beachborough medals Spratton Relay

In the medals at Spratton Relays

A young Beachborough team headed to Spratton Hall on Monday afternoon, with 12 of the 16 children running a year up. As a relay event this course is one of the shorter ones we encounter, but the long hill at the start of the final third means that it remains a real challenge. All the children put in a great effort for their team and performed well despite the competition reaching “new levels” to quote Spratton’s Head of Games. The Under 11 girls worked hard and finished in style with a very strong finish from Florence Tuthill who battled past our rivals from Swanbourne and Winchester House. The Under 11 boys were led out in style by Benedict Hartigan who ran a perfect first lap, running to the game plan and picking off his opponents one by one and finishing as the leader. Henry Pollock, Joshua Dines and Oliver Hartigan all put in a great shift and the team were unfortunate not to pick up a medal, missing out on 3rd place by a metre. The Under 13 boys battled hard in a particularly competitive field and all put in a great shift for the team but struggled with the demands of some much bigger Form VI rivals. The Under 13 girls ran magnificently and Tabitha Watkins put in a superb lap to give the team a narrow lead after lap one. Sophie Tredwell and Emilia Havard both put in excellent laps and Kitty Jewson was sent on her way in third place with about 100m between her and second place. Following the game plan, Kitty ran terrifically to close that gap to 2m with 200m left to go. With typical determination, Kitty gave everything and just pipped her rival to the finishing line with the rest of her team cheering her on.The group were a pleasure to take and thank you so much to the parents who came and supported all the teams so well.
