Beachborough Debate

The Christmas Balloon Debate

Beachborough Debating Society put on a Christmas balloon debate today. In the imaginary balloon were well known characters from children’s films. The characters were to be voted out of the balloon so that it could rise into the air. There were 4 rounds and characters left the balloon until only 3 remained. The audience then voted for a winner. Cinderella (Emily Banks) was this year’s deserved winner, closely followed by Olaf and Sven (Archie Osborne and Jude Brotherwood) and the Ugly Sisters, (Emelia Havard and Naimh Dudgeon). Other characters in the balloon were: Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchett, (James Barker and Isaac Moore); Steve and Kevin, the Minions (Emma Loader and Eleanor Blane); Simba – the Lion King (Alexandra Medina); Aladdin and Genie, (Henry Howard and John Edet); Jack and Easter Bunny (Charlie Ford and Will Green); Peter Pan & Captain Hook (Rafe Gordon and William Gibson-Sexton); the Conductor and Boy – from the Polar Express and Elf – Millie Giles. All the children made a huge impression on the audience; they were eloquent, humorous and persuasive. This first public outing for the Beachborough Debating Society was a great success and bodes well for future events. Report by Yve Kerr and Anna Howard
