Beachborough Great Debate

The Great Debate

On Tuesday 2nd December Beachborough Debating Society hosted an evening of friendly
debating with pupils from Thornton College.10 pupils from Form V & VI joined with the girls from Thornton in mixed teams to consider a variety of topics which included:

  • This House believes that reality television shows such as The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, and the Voice are not developing the nations true musical talent.
  • This House believes that the biggest risk to young people today comes from cyber bullying.
  • This House believes that digital readers will never replace books.
  • This House believes that computer games promote violence and anti social behaviour in young people today.
  • Beachborough pupils were excellent ambassadors for the school and the evening was a great success. A re-match at Thornton will be arranged very soon.

Mrs Newman, the team’s teacher from Thornton said, “Thank you so much for Tuesday evening – it was a super event! The girls were absolutely buzzing in the minibus on the way back. It was a great experience for them all. Your students were delightful and made the Thornton girls very welcome. When can we have a rematch? We can’t wait for you to visit us at Thornton College.”
