Form V Trip to Paris

Form V accompanied by 5 members of staff enjoyed a very successful trip to Paris last week. We stayed in at Le Château de Grande Romaine on the outskirts of Paris. The trip offered the children cultural, linguistic and team building opportunities. En route we visited the Canadian Memorial at Vimy Ridge, where we were able to walk through the trenches and look at displays in the visitor centre. We went up the Eiffel Tower and visited Notre Dame Cathedral. We spent a morning in the Musée d’Orsay where the children undertook an investigation activity based on impressionist and post-impressionist painters. Also we spent some time in Montmartre and visited Sacre Coeur. The local market in Brie Comte-Robert offered the children the opportunity to practise their French and bartering skills! They also did a town questionnaire in teams. The children had a 2 hour French lesson based on the Eiffel Tower visit. Activities at the château included a camp fire, disco, egg drop, scavenger hunt et bien sûr la dégustation des escargots! The children made notes for their French diaries and are now in the process of finishing them. Disneyland was a very enjoyable fun day and, as on every day of the trip, we were blessed with fine weather.Report by Stephen Mount
