Beachborough U11 ‘A’ Hockey Squad Win the U11 Bloxham Hockey Festival

Beachborough girls rose to the challenge on Sunday morning. After a dull start the sun shone brightly and after an hour and a half ’s playing time, (six, 15minute matches with very short breaks in between) there were some very red faces as well as tired legs. The
first match was against The Carrdus A team. Beachborough dominated play throughout but Carrdus had an excellent Keeper who kept the ball out of goal until the last 3 minutes saw a well executed Short Corner, which resulted in a goal for Lauren Yeowart. Great teamwork soon saw new recruit Pippa Little on the score sheet and the match ended with a well deserved 2-0 win. Considering that the girls had only had two practices, the teamwork throughout the morning was excellent. Eleanor Blane led by example and there
was tremendous support from parents on the sidelines. Although there were occasions when the ball never got to her, Ruby Webster nevertheless remained vigilant and did not concede a single goal. Tremendous tackling and defensive work from Izzy Dowson, Lauren Yeowart and Eleanor Blane saw the ball returned to attack time after time. Dogged determination led to more goals from Izzy Banks, Gemma Ashley and Ele Blane. Both Jemma Zimmermann and Mattie Goosey had good runs down the right and left respectively and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet themselves. With subsequent wins over Ashfold, The Croft A and B teams and Draws against Winchester House and our own B team, the U11 girls finished as overall winners.
